Artist Statement | I, too, am a part of this history
The works that I have produced for this project is an homage to Abu al Hassan Ghaffari, also known as SaniolMolk, one of the master water colourists from the Qajar period of Iran. There was an abundance of cultural interaction and trade between the people from the Middle East, Europe, China, Africa and India. There are still huge settlements belonging to the Persians, Arabs, Afghans, Africans, Chinese and Turks in the subcontinent. During the course of time they have intermingled, traded and created ample cultures and formed new languages. One of these languages is that of our homeland- “Urdu”. It is such a vast language that you can find yourself speaking it in Manhattan, China, London, Syria and even in the unexplored beaches of Sri Lanka.
