Kannan is a British–Sri Lankan documentary filmmaker. Kannan’s films have screened at international film festivals, art museums and appeared in The Guardian, The New Yorker, the BBC and Al Jazeera English. Kannan’s practice focusses on stories that highlight the long-term impact of conflict. His last film, ‘Sri Lanka’s Rebel Wife’, was shortlisted for best documentary at the DIG Investigative film awards, Modena, Italy. Kannan’s film, ‘The Tent’ (2019) was the focus of his British solo exhibition at The Tetley, Leeds. Kannan is currently working on completing two new feature documentaries about the protest movement in Sri Lanka and a film about the Anthropocene from Trinidad & Tobago with collaborators at Cornell University and the University of Cambridge.
