Sabih Ahmed is the Director of the Ishara Art Foundation in Dubai. His curatorial work and research move between exhibitions, archives, pedagogy and theory. At Ishara, he has led the strategic direction and expansion of the foundation, organised major solo exhibitions of artists such as Jitish Kallat and Sudarshan Shetty; curated solo and group exhibitions that include ‘Navjot Altaf: Pattern’ and ‘Notations on Time’ co-curated with Sandhini Poddar; and initiating artist-led curations by Sohrab Hura and Gauri Gill.
Prior to Ishara, Ahmed was a Senior Researcher and Projects Manager at the Asia Art Archive from 2009-2019, where he was involved in establishing their office in New Delhi. His independent curations and artist collaborations include being on the collegium of ‘Five Million Incidents’ conceived by Raqs Media Collective and organised by the Goethe Institut, Delhi & Kolkata (2019), ‘The Superhero Sighting Society’ in collaboration with Taus Makhacheva at Kadist and Centre Pompidou, Paris (2019), and the 11th Shanghai Biennale ‘Why Not Ask Again?’ curated by Raqs Media Collective in Shanghai (2016).
He serves on the Advisory Board of the Sher-Gil Sundaram Arts Foundation in Delhi and his writings have been featured in a number of publications and journals.
