Ripan Kumar Das (Dhrubo Das) is an independent activist filmmaker, freelance cinematographer and editor.
He completed his Master’s degree from the University of Dhaka in Physical Geography and Environment in 2010 and from Television, Film and Photography in 2021.
As a film society activist, he worked in Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS) from 2006 to 2011. Now he is engaged with Ranesh Dasgupta Film Society.
In 2011 he worked with German film director Veit Helmer as an editor in a short film. He also worked in Maasranga Television for more than two years as a 'News Production Executive'.
He worked as an editor in a Delhi-based film ‘Life of an Outcast (2018)’ an official selection in the Mumbai film festival and also available on Netflix. Recently he edited Delhi based English-Hindi fiction film ' I am Draupadi'yet to release. As a director/ cinematographer/ editor he worked on more than 50 documentaries/short films from different genres.
His ongoing documentary (as the director) ’Settled to be Displaced’ is based on a fisherman in Bhola, an island in Bangladesh. He was awarded a special mentioned award in Dhaka DOCLAB 2019 for this.
